Jack Jouett, the “Paul Revere of the South,” raced 40 miles through the backwoods of VA to warn Gov. Thomas Jefferson and the legislature of the approach of 250 British troops. Jouett’s heroism saved the American Revolution by preventing the capture of some of its most important leaders. In 1782, Jouett migrated to KY where he advocated for statehood, served in the legislature, and bred fine horses and cattle. He and his wife reared 12 children, including renowned portraitist Matthew Harris Jouett. The center “Liberty Star” symbolizes Jouett’s service to his country and state, with 14 border stars representing states preceding KY’s 1792 admission to the Union. The site features Jouett’s 1797 house and 1780’s stone kitchen. Open April-Oct. Mon. 10- 12, Fri. 12-5, Sat. 10-5, and Sun. 1-5.
